by Rachel Henig 30.07.2001 16:59 Israeli company SDE Energy has sold a power station, powered by sea waves, to a South American country for $70 million. The power station will be utilized in conjunction with a desalination plant that the company says will be used to irrigate agricultural land. According to SDE managing director Shmuel Ovadia, the company's power station was built using a patented method for creating electricity from sea waves. Ovadia said, "The method exploits the wave speed and height both as it rises and as it falls." Ovadia said, "The method has several advantages: High exploitability, adjustability and the ability to store energy from sea waves. Sea waves also have potential for greater energy - four times the potential of wind per sq.m. - and the energy created is clean." Ovadia said it signed a two-year contract with the South American country. SDE has US patents for several of the innovations used to build the plant. SDE Energy and Desalination previously carried out successful tests in the Jaffa port. Published by Israel's Business Arena on 30 July, 2001 |
